FORXIGA (Dapagliflozin) is in a class of drugs called SGLT2 inhibitors that work by targeting and helping to stop sodium-glucose transport proteins from allowing glucose that has been filtered out of the blood by the kidneys to be reabsorbed back into the blood.
As an oral antihyperglycemic agent, it is used in addition to diet, exercise, and other glucose control medications to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to heart failure for people with type 2 diabetes who also have cardiovascular disease or are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
